Retrospective slice prescription compensation improves coronary cross-sectional area measurement by MRI
نویسندگان
چکیده
Background Measurements of coronary cross-sectional area are utilized in vasomotor tone and endothelial function studies, which typically employ breath-held, 2-D multi-slice imaging protocols wherein slices are prescribed orthogonally to a linear vessel segment (Fig 1a) [1],[2]. An ovoid template is then manually fitted to the transverse vessel images (Fig 1b) to measure cross-sectional area. Projection through the slice leads to dependencies between the measured area and the prescription angle (between the slice and the vessel–ideally 0°). This adds bias and reduces repeatability, which is problematic when detecting subtle dilations [3].

Coronary artery plaque imaging: Comparison of black-blood MRI and 64-multidetector computed tomography
OBJECTIVE To comparatively evaluate black-blood coronary arterial wall MRI and 64-multidetector computed tomography (64-MDCT) for detection and classification of coronary artery plaques. METHODS We included 15 patients with confirmed coronary artery plaques in the proximal or middle segments of coronary arteries by 64-MDCT, who underwent black-blood coronary wall MRI at 1.5 T within 10 days. ...
متن کاملMRI cross sectional atlas of normal canine cervical musculoskeletal structure.
Although magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has been increasingly used as a diagnostic tool for cervical spine injuries in canines, a comprehensive normal MRI anatomy of the canine cervical spine muscles is lacking. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to build a magnetic resonance imaging atlas of the normal cross sectional anatomy of the muscles of the canine cervical spine. MRI scans were ...
متن کاملA novel computer algorithm allows for volumetric and cross-sectional area analysis of indirect decompression following transpsoas lumbar arthrodesis despite variations in MRI technique.
Many patients present for neurosurgical spine evaluation with MRI studies conducted at facilities outside of the treating medical center. These images often vary widely in technique, for example, variation in slice thickness, number of slices, and gantry angle. While these images may be sufficient in conjunction with a physical exam to make surgical evaluations, we have found they are often inc...
متن کاملRetrospective bellows-based reconstruction for cardiac MRI: preliminary experience
Introduction: The two most common methods for respiratory compensation of cardiac MR (CMR) studies are breath-holding and navigator-gating. Respiratory bellows is a long-established, readily available method, but has been rarely used in cardiac imaging, with some exceptions [1,2,3]. This study compares the performance of respiratory chest wall and abdomen bellows to navigator-gating (NAV), and ...
متن کاملEvaluation of MRI-based Polymer Gel Dosimetry for Measurement of CT Dose Index (CTDI) on 64 slices CT Scanners
Introduction: Computed tomography (CT) has numerous applications in clinical procedures but its main problem is its high radiation dose to the patients compared to other imaging modalities using x-ray. CT delivers approximately high doses to the nearby tissues due to the scattering effect, fan beam (beam divergence) and limited collimator efficiency. The radiation dose from multi-slice scanners...
